Liam is 5

This has happened:

Crazy. I am the parent of a big kid.

I had to work on Liam's actual birthday but I set up breakfast for him and Aaron and Grammie helped him celebrate in style. Last week at Target he picked out his Birthday Cereal. He walked the breakfast aisle as if he were choosing his last meal. Surprise, he picked Reese's Peanut Butter Cup cereal. Sounds gross to me. Smells exactly like peanut butter cups. The boys thought it was the best thing ever. Aaron had plain cheerios after his bowl of treat cereal and he complained that it wasn't yummy. Yeah, I know, buddy. That's why it's called TREAT cereal.

Dinner was Liam's choosing. He wanted chips and salsa. Truthfully, he had picked McDonalds a week ago, but we kept suggesting new things. If we were going to eat out, let's do it somewhere... not McDonalds. We settled on Aqui and enjoyed the outside where the boys could be as noisy as they wanted.

Food, drinks. Presents and cupcakes. All of the people sitting outside with us joined in his birthday song and Liam found a (grown-up) birthday-buddy celebrating, who gave him a high-five.

This year I let Liam pick who he wanted to come to his birthday party. Not just my friends and their kids (although that did happen too), but Liam's friends. We are entering a new realm, here. I am having visions of slumber parties and all nighters. Blech. He was able to have 5 friends over and he all he wanted to swim. And they swam and swam and we sweltered and swam too.

 Oh, and ate cupcakes.

Even Liam crashed at nap time, which hasn't happened in months, people.

(Mental Note: when I need a break this summer, take the boys swimming.)
