Autumn Harvest

If you have spent much time around here, you know that every year around this time we set aside a day to make applesauce. This year was no exception. Our GO date turned out to be in the middle of an October heatwave. No thank you. We pushed back a week, and by doing so, ended up with 6 boxes of (free to me) bartered apples. Thank you Duane.

The boys made quick work of absconding these empty boxes and turning them into super hero training quarters. As in lots of climbing, stacking, hiding, and exploding of boxes. Anything to keep them occupied and out of the kitchen was fine by me.
A little art project in the middle of playing. They could have cared less.
About once a year we get a visit from the fire department.  I guess our court yard is the perfect place to practice driving in reverse.  The kids got a private fire truck show. If you have an experience with preschoolers, you would understand how exciting this was.

During nap time the mommies chopped, boiled, pureed, strained, and canned a lot of sauce.  By the end of the day my feel were killing me and my kitchen was a disaster. Surprisingly it was worth it.
Not surprisingly, the kids decided it was worth it too.

I asked Liam to take a picture of the applesaucers in our sweaty, sticky glory: me, Grammie, and Erin. It looks pretty good. Imagine how it would have turned out if Liam looked through the view finder first.
