To Infinity, and Beyond!

Happy Fourth Birthday Liam Ryan

The sun struggled to peak through the cloud cover on Saturday morning while we decorated for Liam's birthday. Very different from his first birthday. {For those of you who were there, you remember the scorching May heat which caused us all to be drenched in sweat.} Rocket was ready, wings were assembled, streamers hung, balloons tied- we were ready to blast off into space with Buzz Lightyear and his Rocketeers!

We celebrated Liam's 4th birthday with his very first real party. Other than his first birthday, which was more of a congratulations to Mommy and Daddy for making it through that year, Liam hasn't had a "party." I didn't want to do anything extravagant when he wouldn't be able to remember it. But, we have turned a corner, we are entering new territory today, as four year olds are VERY aware of themselves, including birthday celebrations. Liam picked his party theme (Buzz Lightyear), he invited his friends, (sorry if you weren't invited, the guest list was contrived by my little man this time) and his one main request: a bouncy house.

I believe fun was had by all. We were blessed to have so many friends and family join us to celebrate Mr. Liam.

It is always bittersweet as you look at the calendar and see a birthday approaching, knowing that by counting the years you are seeing time slip through your fingers. To look back on the year, in slight unbelief that it's really been four years since Liam was born, and knowing that we have one precious year before he starts kindergarten. But, with the knowledge of how lucky we are to have a healthy strong boy who loves to run and climb and give hugs and make people laugh.
