Can't Get Enough of this Everyday Love

A(nother) day in the life of... Oh wait. It's not just an ordinary day.
It's VALENTINE'S DAY!
It's not a day that I *have* to celebrate with Ryan (we won't be going out tonight, are you kidding me?!) or a day that I think you should feel shabby about if you don't have someone who loves you (because, really, we can all find someone. It just might not be THE someone).
I've always loved to celebrate this day and I think it's because I am spend so much of my time with children. My own kids, my students, I loved this day as kid myself:
The giving of cards
the celebration of love/friendship/people
an excuse to make things in the shape of a heart.

My Mom always did (still does) a bang-up job of celebrating Valentine's Day, and now that I have my own kiddos I try to follow in her footsteps.
(She made homemade scotch mallows for us this year. to. die. for.)

I started the day with some time alone. And a cup of coffee. Enough said.

The kids riffled through their closet for something red. Ryan is not wearing red, by the way. He is wearing black.

Cupid Cathryn and Little Miss Nora stopped by with cards and treats on their way to work and school. Doesn't Nora sit just like a girl? And I'm slightly fascinated with the exchange between Aaron and Nora. Liam, you might need to be worried. (He's obviously clueless about what is going on right next to him).
Breakfast: heart-shaped cinnamon rolls, eggs, and cantelope.
Treats and a card from Mommy
Their cards are good for one date with mom. Liam already said he wants to go to the movies and eat popcorn. My kind of boy.
Nanny and Papa came by with (more) treats for the boys and they stayed around for a few minutes.
Did you remember me saying how much I love this day? This parade of people coming over has been so much fun- It would have only been made better if ALL of you could have stopped by.
Grace and Arin spent the rest of the morning with us, and brought crafts with them!!
Isn't this the cutest thing you have seen? String, cornstarch, water, wax paper and a cookie cutter. {http://familyfun.go.com/crafts/sticky-hands-warm-hearts-973682/}
Cookie decorating. Cookie eating.
And lunch- wait- is that another heart I see?
I think this is such a fitting end of our post.
I hope that I am teaching my boys to love.
Not just today.
Not just on a holiday, but everyday.
I believe that, as a mommy of boys, it is one of my biggest jobs to prepare them to love their wives, someday.
{Ryan sets an amazing example for them and I thank his Mom and Dad for this gift.}
But, I have a job to do to.
I look for opportunities in the everyday to show my boys how to express themselves, to share their hearts, to be gentlemanly and hold the door, to be generous, to be a leader, to say, "Mommy your earrings are pretty." to close their mouths when they chew, and to wash their faces with soap in the morning, to be kind, to hug, to give kisses and snuggle, to pick up their clothes and make their beds.

I just hope some of it sticks.
