So let your light shine!

The Pumpkin Patch was not in the cards this year, so the Shull Family Pumpkin came from the local grocery store. I held out to the very last moment, with hopes that we could pick our own pumpkin but our weekends were filled with church and family activities. I might be comfortable doing away with the traditional pumpkin patch trip (for this year, mind you!) but I wanted to still have some quality family time together.

We have been reading the Pumpkin Parable for bedtime recently. I love the story of the farmer choosing his pumpkin, cleaning it out, carving a beautiful face, and leaving it to shine its light to the neighborhood. As Liam helped us with the pumpkin we were able to talk about the different parts of the pumpkin, how we need to clean it out so that it can shine, how we can shine our light in the world, and that Jesus is the Light of the World. He really got it. And besides, it fun to get your fingers all messy and stuff!!

Ryan and Liam look so much alike to me in this picture with their serious faces.

Liam was able to use the little pumpkin carving knife and he decided on the shape of the pumpkins eyes, nose, and mouth. He mostly wanted it to look like himself. I think that might be typical 3 year old behavior: A little ego-centric.

After it was all said and done, here is the family, who all participated. A little bit.

Aaron's pumpkin, aptly named, Bah (ball) by his highness. This pumpkin has been Aaron's favorite plaything over the last week.

Tears in sweet Aaron's eyes might mean that it was past bedtime and he was a sleep boy. It might also mean that he didn't want me to stop him long enough to snap a picture. Maybe.

And here we are all finished. It's a proud little boy, don't you think?

The tongue thing is Liam's new picture face. Don't know where it came from but would like it to go back where it came from.

Love, love, love this picture!

When my kids did/do that (some still do) we tell them to put their tongue way... Amazing how they do! Great pictures... I love your analogy!
