... and we had a few more than 16 apples. Who knew that 100 pounds of apples would make over 50 jars of applesauce. Ahem.
Saturday morning (afternoon, and early evening. ahem.) was our annual date to applesauce. To enjoy a moment of nostalgia, here are the pictures from our last two years: 2009 applesaucin' and 2010 Applesaucin'. Our kiddos are getting bigger by the day, but they still aren't big enough to be much of a help to our project. Maybe next year?
Cathryn and I are really getting this down: 4 pots going- 2 for apples, one for the hot-bath and the fourth was boiling the lids. When we were paying attention our assembly line worked like a dream. When we weren't, like when we would leave a burner turned off for 20 minutes, or not be ready with apples, it caused a slight delay, but really, we are getting pretty darn efficient.

Not only did we have 4 pots on the stove, we also had both of our kitchenaids, which allowed us to be really effective.

The little snitches enjoyed an apple. or two. or three.

Upon completion, Cathryn and I have ended up with enough applesauce to feed our families for the next 3 years, with leftovers to spare for Christmas gifts. Did I mention that aloud?

Growing up, my mom {and us kids} used to put up 300 quarts of fruit a year! Yup. 300!! We typically had canned fruit for all three meals when we were younger and almost always for dinner and sometimes lunch. It's a lot of work but it's rewarding in the end. Great job Michaela!! Wish I could be there canning with you girls!!
