A train trip

We wanted to go on an adventure. (plus the fact that...)

Liam loves trains. (plus the fact that....)

Cathryn has been a single mother for almost a week now with Paul in Italy, and could use an outing and a distraction for Miss Nora (equaled...)

a visit to Menlo Park on the Caltrain, complete with park playtime and brunch at Stacks.

Liam is enamored by trains. On the trip to Oregon we encountered a few trains and a whole lotta train tracks. It was one of our distraction techniques when things were going poorly. "Hey, I think I see a train track!" We even stopped in remote Northern California towns to see their "historical" tracks (who knew?!) and trains. By the time we were home we had a train-lover on our hands.

When I woke Liam up this morning I told him that we are going to go on a train and he actually squealed. In excitement. At 8 am. Getting dressed consisted of putting on our train shirt, our train pants, our train shoes, and our train hat. None of which had any train resemblance what-so-ever. I don't argue with a two-year old!

Ryan wanted to take the train all the way into the city. I discovered that it's a 1 1/2 hour train ride. My guess was that after 30 minutes the novelty of the train would wear off quickly and what passenger wants to sit through an hour with a noisy toddler? Thus, Menlo Park was our destination of choice. We found a park a half mile away from the Caltrain station, played there for an hour, and then walked to Santa Cruz Ave for a little lunch. And did I eat! I tell you, pregnancy makes me starving. There was NOTHING left on my plate. I guess when you only have two and a half weeks until the due date your body is storing up a little bit-a fat!

To top it off, nap time was fantastic. For all of us!
