In the childhood memories of every good cook, there is a large kitchen, a warm stove, a simmering pot and a mom."
I would hope that Liam has these memories of our kitchen... He is starting to become curious about the kitchen and cooking; today he assisted in making our first of the fall season-pumpkin bread. He sat on the counter and stirred, poured flour, and was amazed with the sound of the kitchen aid. The imitation of the motor was his favorite sound for the next half-hour.
The other night as I was making dinner, Liam discovered the cupboard where I keep our pots and pans. As he squealed in glee, my mental process went something like, "if I don't close the door quickly, I am going to have a big mess to clean up. But, doesn't every child need the experience of banging together pots and pans?" The two angels, one on each shoulder, argued, while the side of childhood experience won out against my practical side. Let me jump in and say, before your imagine carries itself away, it doesn't always work this way. More often than not, I enter into messes thinking solely about the gigantic mess that I am going to have to clean-up afterwards.
I was glad, though, that I let him discover, because he LOVED it!
And I finished dinner.
