This is our third time at the cabin since our family grew to the size of three. I am amazed at how much we enjoy the time that we spend there, away from all the "stuff" of our lives. I believe it is so important for us to find time to get away from it all, to slow down, and just be. I watched a video in my program last year that discussed the idea that kids are not learning how to play anymore, they are constantly entertained, even when they are "playing;" either they are constantly with someone who entertains them, they are with a toy that entertains, or sitting in front of something that entertains. The art of creative play is being lost. I was convicited of the need to provide opportunities for children to have imaginations, to explore alone, and to experience the world around them. I hope that, even though we are city kids, Liam will have these opportunitities to play, to be creative, and to explore.
