I have found a way to make the camera work. It's not the most advantageous way, but, hey, I have the pictures off of it, and that's what matters. When Liam pulled the camera off the table, the back unsnapped and the end result is that we couldn't turn it on or off. Yesterday, when I was trying to unscrew the back piece, and failed (I need a smaller screwdriver), I used the tiny screwdriver in my hand to reach inside and press the "on-off button." And it worked! Did I mention that we were in the car, on the way to Liam's swimming lessons, as all this was going down? Here is the test picture
It feels great to be able to take pictures again. It's really not a permanent fix, I think having the camera's insides open to dirt and air is not a good thing. I will have to try something else to fix it, but at least in the meanwhile, I can take pictures!
